Powering Resilience and Growth: Warren’s Story in Kagadi.

In Kagadi the Western Region of Uganda, a growing trading center, Toshabomwe Warren, a fuel pump owner and water supplier, is experiencing firsthand how reliable clean energy can transform rural businesses and livelihoods.

Before joining FRES, Warren relied entirely on a petrol generator to run his fuel pump and water pumping system spending about UGX 15,000 daily on fuel just to pump 5,000 litres of water, alongside daily maintenance and operational challenges. These recurring costs reduced his margins and created constant business strain.

Since transitioning to FRES Solar, Warren saves up to 30% on power with a solar system that produces 6.5 kwh of energy daily , his operations have stabilized and costs have reduced significantly. Instead of unpredictable daily fuel purchases, Warren now benefits from a predictable monthly energy payment, freeing him from petrol procurement, generator noise, and maintenance interruptions.

Despite operating in a low-customer area, the savings and reliability from FRES have strengthened his financial resilience and enabled him to keep services running consistently even during rainy days when traditional energy sources often fail.

His satisfaction has turned into strong community advocacy: within less than two months, Warren has referred five new clients to FRES, three of whom are already connected and benefiting from reliable solar power.

“Since I joined FRES, I am relieved from daily petrol costs. My business runs steadily, and I can focus on serving customers.”

Warren’s story reflects the broader impact of FRES Solar systems and mini-grids lowering operating costs, improving reliability, and enabling rural entrepreneurs to sustain and grow their businesses in emerging markets like Kagadi.
